Propagatin’! These are baby jades and baby succulents (echeveria I think). Anyone in Brooklyn needing a new teeny plant friend? #plants #propagation
Some fun 12-oz tumblers for some fun pals that I don’t see nearly enough! Wheelthrown, chip-carved and inlaid with slip, with red underglaze band. Fired to cone 10 reduction. #pottery #ceramics #clay
Happy anniversary to this dude, shown here reveling in the effects of radiative cooling in a stone corridor. Here’s to another year of inventiveness, travels, and cheese plates. Xoxo @dadumdumcha !!
Pretty stoked on this loon, underglaze on porcelain, shown here right after its bisque bath. Currently awaiting firing with a light coat of clear glaze. #pottery #ceramics #sgraffito #birdistheword
Creativity and collaboration comes in so many different forms. Neel and I came up with an idea for a ceramic-based solar generator 5 years ago, and after lots of tests and writing and drawing and drafting, we have our first patent, no. US 10,371,126 B2, ‘Solar power collection systems and methods thereof’. We made this with the belief that there has to be better, cleaner ways to generate energy. Massive thanks to Andras Pokorny for all the studio/lab work and to Geeta Krishnan for generously providing big patches of sun in which to test our evolving set-up over the years. Much of this project was inspired by the work of chemist Maria Telkes, who saw that a solar-powered world could be possible back in the 1940’s. Also thanks to @rayoandhoney and @xnstudio_ for the perfect banner over our work bench. We will be continuing to prototype and finesse over the fall and are really excited for whatever comes next!
Went through an intense gorgon phase this summer, which was the subject of a carving demo I did @greenwichhousepottery a couple months ago. Here is the end result - a quick-n-dirty Medusa in all her snake-haired fanged glory. Second image is the ancient antefix from @metmuseum that I loosely based this image on. A massive thank you to all who attended my session, and to my summer students who politely listened to me ramble about gorgons for several weeks! #pottery #ceramics #sgraffito
Awesome little plate by @melissaweisspottery is just one of many amazing pieces Neel and I scooped today @brooklynpotteryinvitational - if you are in Brooklyn this weekend, soooo worth the trip. So much talent in one room! #ceramics #clay #brooklynpotteryinvitational
Afternoon visitor. I think they got off at the wrong stop! #mantis
Posting some pics of fun custom work completed over the past few months as I plow through my current production list - had a blast making this anniversary platter because I felt some degree of liberty in going for some deep 70’s-style woodland kitsch. Contributing to that vibe is a contrasting underglaze border, which I’ve incorporated in projects here and there. The turquoise really makes the overall warm tones of this plate pop. Goal for upcoming 2020: more kitsch please!! #pottery #ceramics #sgraffito #squirrel
Another finished piece where I posted a detail a few weeks back - wanted to make a moody but warm sunset beach scene, so I went for total silhouette for the beach/palm tree and deep, rich colors for everything else. Real stoked on the clouds here, influenced in equal parts by Ken Price and Rick & Morty. #pottery #ceramics #sgraffito
